What should I expect once I put in an application?
Our volunteers try to sort through the applications as quickly as possible. As you can expect, some litters get a big response and it may take a bit longer. All applications are screened with the best interest of the dog taking priority. We try to make the best match possible so we take all elements of your application into account. Please make sure your application is as accurate as possible. We check vet references if they are listed (please call your vet and give them permission to speak to us), a personal reference, and contact you for a phone interview. We try to respond to all inquiries within the week, however we aren’t always successful. Thank you for you patience!
Do you have a kennel we can visit or call to ask questions?
No. Motley Mutts Rescue operates as a shelterless rescue organization, so we do not have a building or phone number. Our dogs live in private foster homes until adopted, and our volunteers work from their homes. How can I arrange to meet the dog I am interested in?
The first step is to complete an application. Once that is in and reviewed we will reach out to you and set up a meet and greet. This gives you the opportunity to see if the dog is a good fit for you. If you feel this is the dog of your dreams, then you may complete your adoption at that visit and take the dog home.
What are your adoption fees?
Motley Mutts Rescue is a registered NH non-profit, all-volunteer rescue. We are not funded or subsidized by any state or federal agency, although we are required to adhere to strict state regulations. Our operation runs solely on the adoption fees we collect and the donations we receive from caring people like you. There are many costs involved in running the rescue, some of which includes veterinary care, transportation from the South, food, kennel care, insurance, and associated utilities. All of our dogs are spayed or neutered prior to adoption, up to date on their vaccinations, tested for heartworm if over 6 months of age, receive health certificates and are microchipped. The money we receive for adoption fees and donations barely covers the costs associated with rescuing dogs and we use every penny to keep rescuing dogs in need. Adoption fees range from $575 for adults and $650 for puppies. We sometimes have adult dogs who are sponsored or senior dogs for lower fees.
I want to adopt after our vacation or I’m still trying to convince my husband, can you hold the dog for me?
Please do not complete an application until you are ready to adopt. We do not have the administrative staff to hold applications in abeyance, keep track of individual wants, or keep track of applications for a dog in general. When you are ready to adopt, check our available dogs page.
I submitted an application for a dog but it went to another adopter. Do I have to fill out another application if I see one I would like to meet?
No, if you see another dog within one year of your first application, just email us that you have a pending application and would like to meet another dog. We will be happy to use the submitted application to move the process of potential adoption forward.
What do I bring to the meet and greet? Should I expect to take the dog home?
If you plan to adopt at the time of the meet and greet, just double check with us that your dog has a current health certificate. We try to make sure that all the dogs are ready to be adopted on the day of their meet and greet but since the health certificates expire every 14 days, sometimes the adoptable dog might need to be seen again by the vet for an updated exam. Please bring a leash and acceptable forms of payment (Cash, Check, Money Order, or Paypal). If you are running more than 15 minutes late to a meet and greet please send an email to let us know so we can let you know if we can still accommodate your appointment.
